Bloom Academy Charter School exists to provide a high quality, rigorous, and joyful educational experience to students in grades kindergarten to fifth grade. We are a new and independent school seeking to add deeply mission aligned, smart, hardworking, and emotionally intelligent people to our founding staff. We opened August 2019 with a cohort of kindergarten and first graders and now serve scholars in grades K-5.

Bloom Academy Culture and Community Fellow

Driven by our mission to ensure every child succeeds, the primary responsibility of the Culture and Community Fellow is to assist the Director of Culture and Community with implementing systems and procedures that create a school culture that is conducive for joy, character development, and rigor to flourish. The Culture and Community Fellow is a warm demander and models how to cultivate an environment of high expectations and love. The Culture and Community Fellow is highly visible on campus responding to scholar behavior with high expectations and love.

The Culture and Community Fellow will have the following key responsibilities:

Tier 1 Culture Support

  • Support the Director of Culture and Climate with implementing school wide efforts in developing a restorative culture that keeps the bar high for scholars and aims to teach prosocial skills and not punish scholars for social-emotional gaps.
  • Assist teachers, students, and parents in effective creation and implementation of individual behavior plans, as needed.
  • Participate in re-entry meetings with school staff and families of scholars who have been suspended.
  • Assist the Director of Culture and Climate with facilitating professional development and live coaching for teachers around restorative practices and maintaining a classroom environment of love and high expectations.
  • Assist the Director of Culture and Climate with keeping accurate student discipline records, documenting all incident reports, conferences, suspensions, and phone calls for behavior.
  • Participate in weekly community meetings with all students and staff that promotes school pride, a love of learning, and celebrations of academic and social/emotional excellence.
  • Maintain high visibility and oversight of high behavior moments throughout the day including but not limited to arrival, lunch, dismissal, after school programming, and community meeting.
  • Perform duties as assigned by manager.

Family Engagement and Community Partnerships

  • In collaboration with the Culture and Community team, build mission-aligned community partnerships that enhance the lived experiences of our staff, scholars, and families.
  • In collaboration with the Culture and Community team, oversee the planning and execution of extracurricular activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
  • Experience working with underserved communities in a K - 12 school
  • Deep alignment with our school’s mission and core values.
  • A staunch belief that all students regardless of race or socio-economic status can achieve at high levels and be positive contributors to their communities.
  • A successful background check in compliance with state law.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with all school stakeholders.

Preferred Key Competencies, Mindsets and Abilities

  • A social justice-oriented philosophy as it relates to the achievement gap and educational advancement of disenfranchised communities.
  • Spanish proficiency is a bonus.
