Bloom Academy Charter School exists to provide a high quality, rigorous, and joyful educational experience to students in grades K to 5. We are a new and independent school seeking to add deeply mission aligned, smart, hardworking, and emotionally intelligent people to our founding staff. We opened in August 2019, to a cohort of kindergarten and first grade students in Houston Texas’ Historic Third Ward. In the 23-24 school year, we will educate students in grades K-5th grade.

The Bloom Academy Founding Instructional Aide

Driven by our mission to ensure every child succeeds, the Instructional Aide will be responsible for providing one-to-one support for students with special needs. The instructional aide is a critical team member that must care deeply about his/her/their work - we are on a mission to change the narrative about what our students are capable of achieving.

The Instructional Aide will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Provide a strong foundation of learning and achievement for kindergarten, first and second grade students.
  • Assist the lead classroom teacher in planning, designing, and delivering lessons.
  • Provides support to scholars who receive additional services.
  • Ensures students are prepared with the appropriate materials each day.
  • Manages student schedule to ensure students are on task and receiving high-quality instruction.
  • Adheres with the direction and guidance of individualized education plans, instructional plans, and behavioral plans.
  • Participates in annual Individualized Education Plan meetings (IEP).
  • Monitors progress toward student academic and behavior goals through strategic data collection.
  • Maintains high expectations for academic and behavioral outcomes and ensures students remain on task.
  • Contributes to the maintenance of an authentically inclusive classroom environment that values high expectations and character development for every child.
  • Provide substitute teaching coverage for classrooms across the school.
  • Perform duties during non-academic times (arrival, breakfast, lunch, and dismissal).
  • Perform duties to assist with morning or afternoon bus monitoring by riding the route, as well as assisting with the after-school program. Schedules will vary depending on which additional duties each paraprofessional/instructional aide has to be an 8 hour work day.
  • Assist with grading and data analysis.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff.
  • Participate in feedback, coaching, and professional development sessions.

Required Qualifications

  • Working in-person/on campus and adhering to the standards required for on-campus work.
  • High school diploma required, associate degree preferred.
  • Deep alignment with school’s mission and core values.
  • A staunch belief that all students regardless of race or socio-economic status can achieve at high levels and be positive contributors to their communities.
  • A successful background check in compliance with state law.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with all school stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
